this was a commission piece that my cousin approached me for. he had some photography from a hike he had gone on and wanted an art piece to memorialize it in a special way. so he gave me the photo he wanted me to work my magic on and off i went delving into ideas an inspirations. i have always been so intrigued and inspired by japanese culture and art, which is where this piece draws heavy inspiration from. the term ukiyo means “floating world” and the art genre ukiyo-e has shown images of this concept of essentially living your best life. with much image manipulation, i created this thematic separation of earth and sky, isolating this memory metaphorically in a way that makes it tied to nothing else. ukiyo: the floating world. living in the moment, detached from the bothers of life.
